Your 401(k) plan is supported by several key service providers, each with a specific role in managing and administering the plan. You can find out who these parties are by logging in to your employee dashboard.
How to View Your Plan's Key Contacts
- Log in to your account at myubiquity.com
- From the left-hand navigation menu, click on 401(k) and select Overview
- On the Overview page, you’ll see the names of your plan’s:
- Advisor(s)
- Plan Administrator(s)
- Trustee(s)
How to Find the Third Party Administrator and Custodian
In addition to the contacts shown on the Overview page, your plan also has a:
- Third Party Administrator (TPA)
- Custodian
To determine who these parties are, you can:
- Ask your Plan Administrator directly
- Contact Ubiquity’s Support Team at info@myubiquity.com
- Review your Participant Fee Disclosure, located under:
- 401(k) > Documents + Forms
The Participant Fee Disclosure will identify:
- The plan’s custodian and a breakdown of any custodial fees
- The Third Party Administrator (if your TPA is not Ubiquity) and any TPA-related fees.
What Do These Roles Mean?
Here’s a quick summary of what each party typically does:
- Plan Administrator: The individual or company responsible for overseeing day-to-day plan operations and ensuring the plan complies with regulations.
- Trustee: Holds legal responsibility for the plan’s assets and ensures they are managed in the best interest of participants.
- Third Party Administrator (TPA): Handles plan compliance, annual testing, and government filings.
- If Ubiquity is not the TPA, your plan will have an external TPA.
- Recordkeeper (Ubiquity): Tracks individual participant accounts, contributions, investment selections, and transactions.
- Custodian: Holds and safeguards the actual assets of the plan.
- Your plan’s custodian may be Matrix, Charles Schwab (B/D), or Schwab Trust.
- Financial Advisor: Offers investment education or guidance, and may assist the plan sponsor with selecting investment options.
